Meet Petey the Pelican, a true story. We went on a 10 mile adventure together through the streets of Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I noticed him hanging out for a few days in the same spot, chilling on a concrete bulkhead on the Intracoastal. I was curious, so I approached him and noticed a hook and fishing line stuck in his beak. After a few little antagonizing snaps, he decided he wanted my help. I secured his beak, lifted him in a blanket and drove him in my Jeep 10 miles to the nearest Wildlife Rescue Center, as the wind whipped through our hair and feathers. He was relieved and happy to be helped. As I call them, they are gorgeous, supreme birds. He was later released back into nature at a nearby beach. I saw him again months later as he landed next to me while swimming in the ocean, only to be upstaged by a fish he flew away to view and dove from the skies to snag.
